Welcome! Experience a fantastic winter with us in the Grövelsjö Mountains!

Take a look at the winter video which is produced by students of the Högskolan Dalarna with support of Grövelsjöfjällen Turistförening and Visit Dalarna!

Hopefully we can welcome you in the Grövelsjö Mountains soon!

Experience Sweden’s southernmost and most accessible alpine timberline region.

Come and enjoy peaceful solitude in an untouched and genuine alpine forest and tundra environment!

Lake Grövelsjö lies nestled between Swedish and Norwegian peaks in the northernmost corner of Dalarna, the Swedish Dala river valley (also known as Dalcarlia). Here, you’ll find an extensive wilderness region spreading across both sides of the border. A paradise for alpine hikingfishing, and skiing. The peaks and tundra region are nearby and easily accessible, with miles of hiking trails, marked paths, and prepared ski trails, that start right at your lodging door.

Winter offers cross-country skiing on well-prepared ski tracks or on marked trails that are perfect for families pulling a pulka (local toboggan), where even dogs are welcome. You can also find downhill skiing for the whole family at several lifts in the area. As well, enjoy a complete network of interconnecting snowmobile trails. And, why not take a late-winter ski tour above the treeline? Enjoy the warm springtime sun on your skis!

The summer season isn’t just for hiking. You can canoe, fish for brown trout and arctic char, take a cooling dip in an alpine lake, and later in the season, you can enjoy picking sweet sun-ripened cloud-berries, and blueberries, along with the Swedish specialty, lingonberry (Vaccinium vitis-idaea). The seasonal transition from summer to autumn is worth a separate visit to experience nature during the dramatic, colour-packed transformation to winter!

Cosy lodging is easy to find, where you can enjoy your own mountain-side cabin or stay at a hotel where you can enjoy locally inspired food in a relaxing atmosphere.
