Memories of World War II

Like all western Swedish border areas, the Grövelsjö area was also affected by the German occupation of Norway.

One of the most famous reminders from that time is the plane wreck that partially rises above Grövelsjön's water surface, below Sjöhögda are the remains of the German plane, a Heinkel 111, which during the Second World War, June 1940, made an emergency landing on Grövelsjön.

The wreck is best seen from the lake, although it can be seen with binoculars from the mountain. A trip with M/S Sylöra includes a short visit.
