Reminders of World War II

Like all border villages, the Grövelsjö area was affected by the German occupation of Norway. One of the most known reminders from the time, is the wreck in lake Grövelsjön below Sjöhögda. Here you can se the remnants of the German bomber, a Heinkel 111. The plane made an emergency landing on the lake in June of 1940.

The wreckage is best seen from the lake, but with binoculars it can be spotted from Sjöhögda as well as north of Jakobshöjden. A trip with M/S Sylöra often includes a short visit, talk to the skipper as you board.
