The Valdal Mountains

A route in pure open mountain terrain Skiing with marvelous views of the open expanses. The weather, wind and your mood decides the way

The route does not follow marked trails, map and compass is recommended. Be sure to find out weather conditions and any avalanche risk before you leave. Leave a message containing your pained route with a family member or friend. You can use The Mountain Safety app.

Recommended equipment:

  • Back Country Skies with steel rim
  • Skins
  • Wind-sack
  • Spade
  • Map and compass
  • Sleeping mat
  • A warm sweater for the lunch break
  • First Aid kit
  • Sunscreen and sunglasses

The route starts with a short drive to the Norwegian side. Approximately 15 km from Grövelsjön you find parking by the old peat-tipi. Here are no signs to or “Ledkryss” to guide you, instead you find your own way over the open mountains.

A suggested route is to ski north towards Sushögda and up through the pass by Rundhögda. Here you find a verity of summits and peaks to climb, like LIfjället, Sushögda and Digerhogna. Alternatively you continue to the north along the slopes of Sushögda towards Storslåga, to turn south back to the car via “Lilla LIfjället”.
